Alright, if you've known me for more than 5 minutes you know how crazy I am about getting people to drink water. I think most people know the overall benefits when you drink it regularly. Improves mood, clears up your skin, helps with headaches, helps with weight loss- the list goes on.
Unfortunately, I find that that information just isn't enough to inspire people to actually, truly drink the water they need, so I knew I had to go a different rout with my "encouraging".
Every now and then I find that I need to get a little mean with people. Sometimes people need a little tough love and for me to say the things I don't want to say, but if it's the only way to get them to wake up and do what they need to do to accomplish their goals, I'll do it!
So. Here's what happens when you don't drink water:
-You'll actually gain water weight! I know, this one is a little counter intuitive, but to not hold on to any water in the form of bloating, you must drink MORE water. No one wants a little extra fluff around the belly, right? Plus, that one is an easy fix. Doesn't even require you to give up your favorite sweet treat! It can be as simple as an extra glass of water a day.
-You'll lose mental focus. The brain is made up of a whopping 80% water. That water doesn't just come from anywhere, so by not giving your body the water it needs, your brain doesn't work! As one of my most hilarious clients said, "My body is made up of about 80% soda." which gave us a good laugh, but I don't think their brain finds it quite as funny!
-You'll feel hungrier, so you'll probably eat more. The body craving water is often confused for hunger. I'm sure you've heard people say you should drink water before you decide to eat. That's a real suggestion! Why take in unnecessary calories that will put you over your calorie target for the day, causing you to hold onto or gain weight when that all could have been fixed with a quick glass of water?
-You'll be tired! Even a small amount of dehydration can cause your energy levels to drop. When this happens, most people will grab a coffee, but coffee will dehydrate you even more, causing your energy to drop further! Grab a glass of water instead.
-Your metabolism slows.
-Your skin isn't so great. Think possible acne, but definitely wrinkles. Why botox or medicate when you could fix the problem with just a glass of water?
-You can't exercise at your best. Water is required to convert carbs or fat to energy, so when there's no water, there's no energy.
-You may find yourself with kidney problems. The kidneys need ample amounts of water to function, so when there's not enough you may face kidney stones or complete kidney failure.
-Your heart suffers! Again, the heart needs lots of water to function at its best. When it doesn't have that, it has to work extra hard to get the blood flowing through your body.
Really, the list goes on and on and on.
Please, please drink your water! Your body will thank you for it in a plethora of ways.
